Animoto
Book trailers are great ideas to get students engaged in their books. They provide an opportunity for critical thinking while allowing them to express themselves creatively. Animoto is a great resource for students to use when making book trailers.
For my book trailer, I chose one of my favorite books, The One and Only Ivan. Ivan is an easygoing gorilla that lives at the Big Top Mall and Video Arcade. He becomes accustomed to humans by watching them through the glass walls of his domain.
Ivan loves to watch TV shows and to be with his friends Stella, an elderly elephant, and Bob, a stray dog. Ivan also loves to express himself through art.
Then he meets Ruby, a baby elephant taken from his family, and she makes Ivan see their home - and his art - through new eyes. When Stella dies, Ivan makes a promise to her to help find freedom for Ruby. When Ruby arrives, change comes with her, and it is up to Ivan to make it a change for the better.

QR codes are another great tool for the classroom. They provide students and easy way to access more resources related to a subject. They can contain text, links, and much more. QR codes are safe to use and promote independence for students. There are so many ways to implement QR codes in education.
- read louds
- websites for research
- direction for an assignment
- pathfinders
- book trailers
- scavenger hunts
- checking and reflecting on answers
- videos
- early finisher projects
These are just some examples of ways to use QR codes!!
Jessica,
ReplyDeleteI loved your book trailer. I'm very interested in reading the book you choose. It seems to be such a sweet read.
Animoto and QR codes are great tools especially for the examples you listed.
Great ideas! I liked your idea of using QR Codes for a Scavenger hunt! I think that could be so fun for kids in the library. They could explore and check their answers/ read about a section of the library, just by scanning. Another reason I like them is that I feel kids can move at their own pace for an assignment when using them.
ReplyDeleteLove your book trailer! I have heard nothing but good things about the book The One and Only Ivan but I still have not picked it up yet to read. Now, I will for sure have to grab a copy. I agree that there are so many ways to incorporate QR Codes in the classroom. They are also great for the library! You should put a copy of this book on a display stand and then put your Book Trailer QR code by it! I'm sure after watching your trailer, that students will be snatching up the book! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHello Jessica,
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your insight on how to incorporate QR codes in the library. I can see how beneficial it can be for our patrons. They can access several resources independently by just scanning the QR code. I read The One and Only Ivan to my third grade students and they loved it. You selected a great story. I really enjoyed your book trailer!!! The music selection was on point, and the visuals you incorporated are amazing. Thank you for sharing.
I love a good QR code in the library! I've used QR to create my own library check out system in my classroom, and definitely see how beneficial they are. The One and Only Ivan is a definite hit, and your book trailer captures the interest of those who watch it. Great job!
